Yin and Restorative styles of yoga utilize deep stretches held for longer periods of time (from 3-5 minutes) in order to open the connective tissues such as joints and fascia.  This style is characterized by a slow meditative atmosphere and pace, conducive to relaxation and the unwinding of physical and emotional tension.  Props such as blankets, bolsters, blocks, sandbags, and eye pillows are used to deepen the practice by facilitating the release of stress and supporting gentle yet deep opening in the body.

This style is ideal for balancing an active lifestyle, as it helps to counteract the tightness and soreness often associated with exercise.  Additionally, it is excellent for people with limited mobility, injury or disabilities, as it provides the benefits of yoga in a less rigorous and more accessible way.
