What is a Sound Bath?

Sometimes called 'Sound Meditation,' this is a practice in which you bathe in the vibrations from powerfully resonant instruments in a comfortably reclined position. These vibrations move through the body as a deep internal massage, relaxing and releasing old energy from the tissues. It can often be felt as 'waves' moving from head to toe, tingling, and other pleasant sensations.  Although the vibrations are powerful, the sounds are generally considered relaxing and reminiscent of familiar and comforting experiences, such as ocean waves or the sensation of our mother's heart beating before we are born.

How it Works

The body is made of primarily water, and sound travels through water up to 5 time more efficiently than through air.  This means that the vibrations penetrate the body easily and resonate there for some time.  We experience this resonance as physical sensations as well as processing the sound with our mind and emotions.  Our entire being is profoundly impacted by these sounds through a phenomenon known as Entrainment—the synchronization of our own internal biorhythms (heart rate, brainwaves, nervous system signals, etc) with the rhythm of sounds from the instruments.  This in turn 'washes' away the often chaotic frequencies that we may have picked up in our everyday lives, giving us a much needed break from the environmental 'static.'  

In this space we find deeply restorative rest and relief from daily stress, as well as an opportunity to examine our current condition with clarity and discernment.  Specific frequencies that correspond with focus, meditation and REM sleep allow us to probe the subconscious mind while fully conscious and awake, journeying blissfully through a 'lucid dream world'.  With utmost care and awareness, I usher participants into the deepest layers of self while holding space for safe and gentle transitions into and out of the experience.  Through this mind-body practice, participants are able to recharge and renew their entire being, while gaining insight about themselves and their current situation.
